In England (and in other countries too) there is an organization called the Pipers' Guild. It was founded by a schoolmarm many years ago and each participant first makes his own pipe (a fipple flute similar to a tinwhistle) out of bamboo, and then they all work together playing their handmade pipes as an ensemble.
I was thinking that JJ's Ocarina Kit would be useful for a community group, of that sort. I know Docjazz has promoted the idea of "Ocarina Guilds," but it could be very nice if the whole group played an instrument of their own making, that they could customize with paint pens or pyrography or what not.
I only wish the kits were available in a 10-note/6-hole format.

I thought about a transverse kit. It looked pointy in my mind.

There are wooden transverse kits. I've seen them on a Japanese site.
