My name is Glauber, and i'm mostly a flute player. When i was still a child, my father used to talk about a flute-like instrument that's not really a flute, but has a very sweet sound. So the occarina became this quasi-magical instrument for me. Eventually i was able to find out what they really are, and learn how to play them.
I have a nice clay one tuned in G, one made of brass, a "puny tune" in F (probably the best one) and still another one made of rosewood and tuned to high C. They used to be part of my arsenal when i used to play with a Christian R&B band called "Eyes of the Wind". Back then i tried to play as many instruments as possible in a gig. These days they still come out from time to time. I get confused with the fingering sometimes. I also wish i could get more than one octave out of them. But they sound very nice.
I was born in Brazil, now live in the USA, in the Chicago area, with my Slovak wife and USian daughters.

For whatever reason, the board software changed my message title from "Hello" to "hadeso", and is not letting me change it back. g

Hey Glauber, welcome to the board. Good to have the first technical glitch out of the way. I think the Japanese have produced some clay ocarinas with an expanded range. I had one of that type, but it got packed away, and my parents, who live overseas packed all their things on top of it, so I don't have one, for all intents and purposes.

Maybe hadeso is hello in Japanese. Bummer, i thought hadeso was a cool title for this thread. Quick googling found extended range occarinas (1 octave + 4 notes), here (click). (the "Zelda" ones). The polycarbonate ones also llook cool and they're good for 18 notes. The Fabio Menaglio one is cool too. Hmm... Ooa?

hello glauber and moderator and all others!
i'm here in sunny arizona happy to see the creation of such a board!!
i'm a novice when it comes to oc's, but enjoy playing them on occasion.
i own three. one i picked up at pike's market while visiting seattle. it is a bass d and is very easy to bend notes. i also have a hsun bird's egg like high d i purchase from elderly music. the third is a double chamber oc i also picked up online. rather haunting in its sound.
fun stuff.....
thanks for the welcome!

I bought both the carbon composite models (C and G). Couldn't decide which one i wanted. I think it was the clip of "The Rising of the Moon" (== The Wearing of the Green) that convinced me.

Hi!
Well, I guess I am first and fiddler, second a wannabe fluter, and third a whistler, but I also have an ocarina! So I do believe that entitles me to take part in Walden's wonderful new site. It's great! And now I actually have tunes I can play on my songstone, thanks to your tab! It's awesome, Walden, great work and many thanks!

There are lots of soundclips in their home page. One plays at random automatically when you load the page.
